Things To Do On A Winter Afternoon In Berlin

While it is fair to say that low temperatures and a lack of sunlight can make Berlin winters hard, Berliners are not big fans of staying at home, even in bad weather, so you will never have any trouble finding the perfect activity for a cold winter’s afternoon here.

Check out our suggestions for making the most of our amazing city come rain or shine!

Lose yourself in a vintage book shop

These days, the vintage vibe can be found in many parts of the city. The atmosphere here is a subtle blend of the past and the present, which gives Berlin its characteristic modern feel. Winter afternoons are perfect for wandering through the parts of town with the greatest number of vintage bookshops – you are sure to uncover some treasure or other! Our favourites are located in Gräfekiez (a small area between the Kreuzberg and Neukölln neighbourhoods), although there are some places on Oranienstrasse that are well worth a visit, too.

Find the perfect coffee bar to unwind and enjoy “Kaffe & Kuchen”

Why not treat yourself to coffee and cake as you peruse the pages of your vintage purchase? Our favourite cafés are Katie’s Blue Cat (naturally!), with its mouth-watering selection of crumbles, tarts, pies and what is probably the best New York cheesecake in Berlin; Bitte in Kreuzberg, with its amazing atmosphere; and Kaffeebar, which has us hooked on its German-Australian fusion. You will find it in the small Gräfekiez neighbourhood, and it serves delicious pastries, brunches and top-quality coffee.

Discover the Ramones Museum

The Ramones Museum Berlin is like no other in the world: it is a unique temple to the legendary New York punk band. Located in the Berlin-Mitte district, it was created by the music journalist Flo Hayler, who first saw the Ramones live in 1990, and began collecting their memorabilia from that very moment on. You will find signed concert posters, playlists, limited-edition t-shirts and even jeans signed by the guitarist, Johnny Ramone, on display here.
