Did you know that there is a beach in Berlin? Between the buildings appears Charlie’s Beach, a small paradise ready for you and where you can relax after a full day in the city. And it’s very close to Gat Point Charlie!
In contrast to the Checkpoint Charlie border crossing, this special place is just beside. Like an oasis in the desert, but here the sand are the urban buildings. So, Charlie’s Beach is an artificial beach, but without sea. It has become a popular place when the summer starts in Berlin. In fact, its opening season is from April to October. Umbrellas, comfortable chairs, tables, palm trees and sand create a tropical atmosphere. So, the ideal plan is sitting on a deckchair, sunbathing, eating some food, drinking a cocktail and chilling with your friends.
What to eat on Charlie’s Beach
If this place stands out in something is undoubtedly for its great street food business. Although they change depending on the year, they are generally the same food trucks hosting, among which are:
Burger de Ville
Burger de Ville doesn’t use additives in their meat and offers a succulent 100% organic beef burger from their Bio Ranch Zempow, located in Brandenburg. In fact, they also have veggie burgers. All accompanied by baked bread, local products and fries. Prices between 4-7€, depending on the size and toppings.
Woop Woop Ice Cream
The curious thing about their ice creams are their production process from ice cooled with liquid nitrogen. They are prepared in front of you, and in just 30 seconds, soft ice cream made with fresh and natural products. Forget the typical flavors such as chocolate, strawberry or vanilla; the Woop Woop ice cream may be chocolate with brownie chunks, strawberry-cheesecake with mint, or rice pudding with blueberries and cinnamon. In addition they also have vegan ice cream made with almond milk. The small tub costs 3.50€, the medium 4.50€ and the large 5.50€.
Tapas Spaingourmet
If you want to feel like in the Mediterranean, in this stand you can enjoy various Spanish tapas: Iberian pork ham, manchego cheese, Spanish omelette, Asturian bean soup, chickpeas soap, shrimp scampi with garlic, fried calamari … and more. Each tapa costs around 6€.
Curry Station
And of course, you should not miss the traditional currywurst (2.30€). You will also find fries and Flammkuchen (a kind of pizza).

Cinema open air in the middle of Berlin
Furthermore, Charlie’s Beach also features a giant screen that projects various events, such as important football matches. In addition, they organize a series of subtitled cinema in which national and international films are projected.

Where is Charlie’s Beach from Gat Point Charlie?
Time: 2-minutes walk.
Head southeast on Mauerstraße and turn left onto Schützenstraße. Continue straight and finally turn right onto Friedrichstraße. Locate the number 48, it’s pretty easy. Take off your shoes and enjoy your drink, food and chillout.
¿Sabías que en Berlín existe una playa que se encuentra muy cerca de Gat Point Charlie? Y es que entre edificios y hormigón aparece Charlie’s Beach, un pequeño paraíso donde desconectar después de un día entero haciendo turismo.
En contraste con el paso fronterizo de Checkpoint Charlie, este recinto tan singular se encuentra justo al lado. Como un oasis en medio del desierto, pero en este caso en medio de edificios enormes de la ciudad. Así, Charlie’s Beach es una playa artificial (aunque sin agua) que se convierte en un lugar muy popular si se pasa el verano en Berlín. De hecho, su temporada de apertura va de abril a octubre. Sombrillas, cómodas sillas, mesas, palmeras y arena consiguen crear un ambiente más tropical. Aquí lo ideal es sentarse en una tumbona a tomar el sol mientras se degusta algo de comida, se bebe un cóctel o simplemente se aprovecha para descansar.
Qué comer en Charlie’s Beach
Si hay algo que destaque del lugar es, sin duda, su gran oferta gastronómica. Aunque varía ligeramente en función del año, en general son bastante fieles a los puestos de comida ambulante que acogen, entre los que se encuentran:
Burger de Ville
Aparte de no usar ni aditivos ni conservantes en su carne, desde Burger de Ville ofrecen unas suculentas hamburguesas de res 100% orgánicas salidas de la granja Bio Ranch Zempow, situada en Brandenburgo. De hecho, también disponen de hamburguesas vegetarianas. Todo ello acompañado de pan hecho al horno, productos locales y patatas fritas. Los precios rondan entre 4-7€, dependiendo del tamaño y los suplementos.
Woop Woop Ice Cream
Lo curioso de esta heladería es su proceso de producción a partir de nitrógeno líquido frío. De este modo preparan delante tuyo, y en tan solo 30 segundos, helados cremosos hechos con productos frescos y naturales. Olvídate de los sabores típicos como chocolate, fresa o vainilla; ya que los helados Woop Woop pueden ser de brownie con trozos de chocolate, pastel de queso con fresa y menta, o de arroz con leche con arándanos y canela. Además también tienen helados veganos hechos con leche de almendras. La tarrina pequeña cuesta 3,50€, la mediana 4,50€ y la grande 5,50€.
Tapas Spaingourmet
En caso de querer sentirse como en el mediterráneo, en este puesto podrás disfrutar de diversas tapas españolas: jamón serrano, queso manchego, tortilla de patatas, fabada asturiana, cocido madrileño, gambas al ajillo, calamares fritos… y mucho más. Prueba cada tapa a partir de 6€.
Y como no, tampoco podía faltar un puesto típico de currywurst (2,30€) en el que también encontrarás patatas fritas y Flammkuchen (una especie de pizza).

Cine al aire libre en medio de Berlín
Asimismo, Charlie’s Beach también cuenta con una pantalla gigante en la que proyectan diversos eventos, como ocurre cuando hay partidos de fútbol importantes. Además, también se organiza un ciclo de cine al aire libre en el que se proyectan películas nacionales e internacionales subtituladas.

Tiempo: 2 minutos a pie.
Dirígete al sureste por Mauerstraße y gira a la izquierda por Schützenstraße. Continúa hasta Friedrichstraße y gira a la derecha en busca del número 48. No te costará mucho ubicarlo. Descálzate y disfruta de la bebida, la comida y el chillout.
