Where is… Gat Point Charlie?

Berlin breathes culture and history in every spot. And Gat Rooms has its own: Gat Point Charlie (Mauerstraße, 81-82), in the Mitte district and only 50 meters from the legendary Checkpoint Charlie.

The hotel, which has a typical Berlin industrial structure, was the home and shelter of the Ministry of State Security (Stasi) of the East Germany at the Cold War, with more than 60,000 secret agents. But nowadays you’ll find our catty soldier Boris as the only one military thing.

Once you’ve gone through the door, the options are endless: a 3-minute walk you’ll hit Stadtmitte metro station, from where access in less than 5 minutes to other places like Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz. A 10 minute walk you can also easily reach the Brandenburg Gate, the Museum Island or the Holocaust Memorial.

But the closest definitely it’s Friedrichstraße, with shops, restaurants and bars just around the corner. An example is Charlie’s Beach, a place to relax after a hard walk touring, located 2 minutes walk from the hotel. As if that were not enough, on the same street is the former Checkpoint Charlie border crossing.

Finally, and as useful information upon arrival, Gat Point Charlie is about 20-35 minutes by taxi (25-35 €) and 40-50 minutes by public transport (€ 2.80) from Tegel Airport; about 30-40 minutes by taxi (40-50€) and 45-60 minutes by train (3.40 €) from Schoenefeld Airport; and about 15 minutes by taxi or train from Haupbahnhof (the central train station).

Moreover, from Gat Point Charlie we propose a walk or bike path around. See tour

Ver tour
