Who said October is an uneventful month?
Some think of October as an “in-between” month: gone are the long, hot days of summer, but the chilly winter season and its traditional family celebrations are still a way off.
Don’t be fooled! At Gat Rooms, we think there is something very special about October. For us, October is the month of warm colours and shimmering lights, and is also the time of year in which art shines in Berlin.
Since 2005, the city of Berlin lights up every year during the annual FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS. Yes, you have read that correctly – an illumination art festival. This year, this unmissable event will run from 6 – 15 October, eleven days in which the city’s emblematic buildings and monuments – such as the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral or the famous Funkturm – will become colourful works of art and will be illuminated from 7 pm until midnight.
In recent years, Berlin’s FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS has come to be considered one of the best-known illumination art festivals in the world, which include prominent events such as the festivals held in Lyon, Sydney, Moscow and Eindhoven. It is a fantastic festival packed with things to see and do! In addition to seeing the wonderful light show, visitors can enjoy a firework display, artistic and musical events, workshops, open days in some of the city’s buildings or attend charity events, among other activities.
The festival gathers national and international artists and allows them to project the light displays that convert the city into a huge stage. In this edition, more than 70 different light projections will transform almost 500 monuments and will follow the theme “Licht Verbindet” (Light Connects). The FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS organisation committee believes that this slogan clearly reflects the symbolic power of light and the development that Germany’s capital has undergone over the last few years.
As Berlin-born Birgit Zander of Zander & Partner, the event marketing company responsible for the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, says: “Light is life, life is energy, light speaks every language and connects people.”

Para algunos octubre puede parecer un mes de transición. Ya quedan lejos aquellos largos días de verano, aunque aún falta para la llegada del frío invernal y sus fiestas familiares. Para nosotros, octubre es el mes de los tonos cálidos y las luces incandescentes, además de ser la época en que el arte brilla en Berlín.
Desde 2005, todos los años Berlín se ilumina en el FESTIVAL DE LUCES. ¡Sí! Has leído bien, un festival dedicado al arte realizado a través de la luz. Este año, el evento empieza el 6 de octubre y finalizará el 15 del mismo mes. Once días durante los que monumentos y edificios emblemáticos de la ciudad, como la Puerta de Brandenburgo, la Catedral de Berlín o el famoso Funkturm entre otros, se volverán coloridas obras de arte y permanecerán iluminados desde las 7 de la tarde hasta la medianoche. ¡No puedes perdértelo!
En los últimos años, el “Berlin Leuchtet” ha evolucionado hasta ser considerado uno de los festivales de arte con luz más conocidos del mundo, entre los que se encuentran eventos tan importantes como los festivales de Lyon, Sydney, Moscú y Eindhoven. ¡Es un gran evento con infinidad de actividades! Además de poder ver el maravilloso espectáculo de luces, los asistentes podrán disfrutar de fuegos artificiales, eventos artísticos y musicales, talleres, puertas abiertas en algunos de los edificios, eventos solidarios, etc.
El festival reúne a artistas nacionales e internacionales y les permite presentar instalaciones de luz que transforman la ciudad en un gran escenario. En esta edición, las más de 70 proyecciones diferentes de luces que transformarán casi 500 monumentos girarán entorno al lema: “licht verbindet” (‘la luz conecta’). El comité responsable del “Berlin leuchtet”, considera que este lema representa de forma clara el poder simbólico de la luz y el desarrollo que la capital de Alemania ha experimentado en los últimos años.
En palabras de Birgit Zander, nacida en Berlín y componente de Zander & Partner responsables de la producción del FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS: “La luz es vida, la luz es energía, la luz habla todos los idiomas y conecta a los pueblos”.
